Pizza, Muay Thai, Wakeboarding and Fatherhood

Meet Rasmus Thyssen, our Engineering Manager with a contagious smile and a head full of innovative ideas. While he may have originally wanted to be a salesman, he found his calling as a developer when he decided to prove his parents wrong in their opinion that he would never make money sitting at a computer all day.

Having been part of Shape already when Shape Games was established as it’s own unit, Rasmus is a self-taught developer and Shape Games enabled him to grow in his abilities “When I joined Shape Games, I thought I was as good as it comes as a developer, but, that maybe was because I wasn’t surrounded by the top of the class. But I was at Shape Games, so I had to step up. I was really surprised by the level of others and I think it’s being shown at Shape Weekends. You can’t imagine what people can do in just two days. It’s incredible. From day 1 he had a lot of challenges to overcome. First was setting up casino products and sportsbook. “We had 3 months for casino and 6 months for sportsbook and then it had to go live. That’s been really interesting. That’s the fundament that we’re building on still.”

LEADING BY EXAMPLE
He always has great energy and new ideas. On top of his normal duties as the frontend engineering manager, he likes to share the knowledge and skills of everyone in his team in fun and social ways. So he set up the web team hackathon. “We sit together with the entire team, we go into our conference room, put on some music and have some sodas and snacks, then we hack on something that helps us in our daily life here at Shape Games. Sometimes we come up with some awesome features that help out the entire office.” Asked about what it takes to be a team leader he says: “To be a team leader you have to be a people person or a person who thinks about everything other than yourself. Basically, my job is to connect everything, I have to make sure that everyone is coding the right thing and taking the right decisions and help them with my guidance.”

PIZZA, DOGS, MUAY THAI...AND KIDS?!
Pizza lover by day, Muay Thai fighter by night… Full-time father of one. In his free time, you can either find him in the gym or on the water wakeboarding. But nothing is more important than spending time with his son.

DO RIGHT
The company motto is (supposedly) as clear as it gets. But what does it mean to Rasmus? “Do right means do the right thing even though no one is watching you. I think we came far in Shape Games by doing right.”

FINDING A PLACE TO CALL HOME
He loves to travel and you can probably thank that for him joining our team. After meeting his future wife on a trip to Costa Rica, Rasmus moved to Copenhagen to be with her and joined Shape Games.

COME JOIN SHAPE GAMES
“It’s the best company that I’ve worked for in my career, it’s very easy going and there’s a lot of freedom with your responsibilities… It’s a young environment and a lot of good stuff is happening”.
